Get to know me — A Q&A with Lorena Castro!

Hi everyone,

Happy September! There are plenty of new email subscribers around here, so thank you for joining our little corner of the internet. I thought this back-to-school and back-to-work season would be a good time to re-introduce myself and share a bit more about me. I often post my balayage work on Instagram and other beauty and lifestyle tips in this newsletter, but this month we’ll take a deeper look at who I am and the things I love to do outside of work.

Without further ado, let’s get into the questions! If I’ve missed anything below that you’re curious to learn about, get in touch with me — I’d love to chat!

How did you get into hairstyling and balayage?

As a child, I spent hours in our neighbourhood salon watching hairdressers style my mother's hair. I then began working in a Barcelona salon while training to become a hairdresser, and moved to London after 10 years. Since then, I’ve worked and I still work behind the scenes of shows at London and Paris fashion weeks and also now specialise in balayage in London.

What’s the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is undoubtedly getting to meet people from around the world. Whether it’s in my London salon or on a shoot somewhere new, it never fails to amaze me that deep down, we are all the same and have so much in common. I love connecting with people, building relationships with them and making them happy through what I do.

What do you love most about London?

The incredible diversity of people, restaurants and entertainment is the reason this city is the best. I also love the shopping and the fashion — London really has everything! It’s a fun place to show visitors around, because everyone can find something they love to do in this city.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

When I’m not working, I love to keep fit by playing tennis. I’m also a huge fan of fine dining and my boyfriend and I are always trying new restaurants in London that we’ve stumbled across online! I’ll take any excuse to dress up and have a fun night out with delicious food!

Here is when I did my course of tennis, with the best coach, Jimmy.

What’s something many people don’t know about you?

That I’m an open book. People who know me in real life often know everything there is to know about me; I’m very happy sharing things with others and don’t consider myself a particularly private person. In terms of my values, finding happiness on a daily basis — even in the smallest of things — makes me so happy. To me, family and friends are the most important things in the world.

What’s your favourite place to travel?

It’s got to be Ibiza. Since I was little, my family and I spent every summer there, and we still do. Now, my partner Tirrel joins us there and he loves it too. It’s a completely magical island and it truly never gets boring — there’s always something to do and a new place to explore.

This pictures were in IBIZA.

What are the three products you can’t live without?

SPF from La Roche Posay,

hair serum from Moroccanoil.

Perfume — my favourites are Kilian Love Don’t Be Shy and Penhaligon’s Halfeti.

This is all for today, I hope you enjoyed getting to know me a little bit more!

Also don’t forget to book your hair appointment with me.

XOXO

Lorena Castro
