My favourite summer hairstyles, balayage trends, and packing tips

Hi everyone,

Happy July! Hope you’re all enjoying the month so far. Can you believe we’re into the second half of the year already? If you’ve missed any of our recent updates, check out my recommendations for maintaining your summer balayage, haircare while on holiday, and a comparison between Olaplex and K18.

This month, we’re delving into the top-requested balayage hairstyles for summer and what to ask from your colourist if you’re heading in for a seasonal refresh. Also included are some summer hairstyles that I’ve been loving, and a few packing tips for all my holiday girlies! Enjoy.

Summer hairstyles and balayage trends

Bouncy 90s blowout

This timeless look has been everywhere this wedding season, and perfectly complements the equally popular curtain bangs style. A good blowout should last you a few days with some volumizing spray at the roots each morning, and sleeping with your hair in a bun so the curls don’t fall out.

Loose waves

If you’re short on time and prefer a low-maintenance look, loose, undone waves are ideal for summer. They add a little texture and interest to a plain outfit, and if you use the right texturizing and volumizing spray to touch up the look, they can last a few days: perfect for if you don’t want to be doing your hair mid-week!

Cropped Bob

Freshly cropped bobs are in this summer, because let’s be honest: it’s far too hot to be weighed down by lengthy tresses in the heat! We’re seeing plenty of celebrities cutting their hair and opting for a chin-length bob, which looks super chic whether you blow-dry it straight or give it some tousled volume.

Summer is high season for balayage touch-ups and colour refreshes. Here are some popular styles we’re seeing come highly requested in the salon lately:

cold brunette balayage

If you’ve got a cooler skin tone and prefer something more subdued than warm caramel hues, an ashy brunette balayage is a great option that will take you from the late summer months into autumn and winter. This style works particularly well on dark brunettes looking for a bit of lightness and movement in their hair.

Packing tips for the on-the-go traveler -

If you’re on a carry-on only flight and haven’t purchased a checked bag, this backpack is a must-have. It fits into the bag sizers of all major airlines including Ryanair, and lets you fit as much stuff as you can for a weekend away in a streamlined, functional backpack. There might even be room for your straighteners!

- Always pack or buy snacks for the airport and your travel journey, in case of delays. There’s nothing worse than getting hangry en route to your destination because you didn’t bring snacks with you! - For longer journeys and trips with multiple stops, packing cubes are essential. They keep you organized, save space, separate your clean and dirty clothing, and store shoes separately so your stuff doesn’t get dirty. What’s not to love?

- Carry valuables and a portable charger close to you at all times, either in a smaller handbag or fanny pack. Don’t let these essential items get lost in a larger bag, or get separated from you during your journey.

- It never hurts to bring essential medication on your trip in case something happens. It doesn’t take up much room, and could be a lifesaver for you or someone in your group. It’s always nice to have things like Paracetamol on hand, rather than spend your holiday trying to find a local pharmacy.

That’s all from me this month. Happy travels if you’re jetting off somewhere soon, and if you’re in the market for some balayage, get in touch with me on Instagram!
