Hello Autumn
Hair and make-up trends for the season
Hi lovelies,
Hope you are all doing really well and enjoying the magic of Autumn in London, or wherever you are. Here in the U.K, the leaves are turning golden brown and lining the paths in my local park, and I’m loving the chance to take out my coziest knitted layers and cardigans to layer with cute hats and coats while on morning walks to get coffee.
Given the chillier climate, and as the temperatures continue to fall and the air gets drier, it’s also a time of change for your hair and skin. Skin is likely to be drier and require more frequent deep hydration and moisturizing, while hair can also be more prone to shedding and falling out. As such, it’s important to prioritize intensive hydration to strengthen the hair through frequent masking and deep treatments.
The autumn months are also a fun time to experiment with new trends in makeup and hair. Some aesthetics I’ve been loving are the clean, “makeup free” look, with sheer, light-coverage foundation, luminous skin and a hydrated, healthy skin appearance. A bit of dewy highlighter on the brow and cheek bones also enhances that fresh-faced look without looking too overdone. I also love to spruce things up with accents of eyeshadow in complementary colours to bring out your eye colour (try olive green eyeshadow if you have brown eyes, or pinky hues if you have blue eyes).
This autumn in the salon, we’re seeing several requests for soft, messy waves — these look perfectly undone and effortless, and are easy to maintain with some setting spray or a bit of mousse at the roots to create lasting volume, whether you choose to leave your hair down or tie it up. More and more girls are gravitating towards warmer, darker colours for hair, including chocolate brown a la Hailey Bieber. The richness of dark brown makes hair look thicker and healthier, particularly when it is used in a reverse balayage to create depth and texture in your locks. Meanwhile, some are following Kendall Jenner’s lead with a surprising shock of ginger-red hair, which has taken social media by storm and inspired a wave of similar looks embracing the warm hue.
The beautiful thing about going a little darker with your hair for autumn / winter is the ability to make your outfits pop with complementary colours: think creamy white coats against chocolate brown hair, or metallic statement pieces with an unexpected red dye. Plus, lightening up portions of your hair — whether it’s a few highlights to frame your face or a balayage — is an easy way to change things up if you’re looking for some variety after going a few shades darker.
Let me know what you think: how are you taking care of your skin and hair this season? Are you thinking of going a little darker to embrace the chillier weather?
