Can you believe it’s 2024?! New year updates and back-to-work hair tips

We’re officially more than two weeks into the new year, which is CRAZY! I don’t know about you, but I’m still writing the date as “2023”... It’s bloody cold outside, but the good news is it’s slowly getting brighter and longer days are on their way. This month, we’re all about fresh starts and returning to the office with the best hair in the game. There’s nothing like a great hair day to boost your mood!

Read on for more information on my availability over the next few months, some new year’s resolutions I’m keeping in mind to start 2024 on the right note, and some of the best back-to-work hairstyles: we’re all about minimal fuss and maximum impact this January.

Maternity leave update

As many of you know, I’m expecting my first baby soon (!!!) and will be on maternity leave as of March. I’ll be completely out of the salon from March until August, when I’ll be back to take on limited appointments two days a week. If you’re looking for a sign to freshen up your balayage or get a sleek new trim, this is your sign. Get in touch with me by replying to this email or sending me a DM on Instagram to get on my appointment list before my maternity leave! Can’t wait to see you in the salon.

New Year’s Resolutions — what are you committing to?

The new year is a great time to get really clear on your goals for the coming months, and how to move closer to the life you want for yourself. That said, January can come with a lot of pressure, despite the fact that we’re still in the depths of the winter months and nature is fully in hibernation mode. Be kind to yourself and see this as a time to set foundations for the year, rather than get everything perfect at once.

I’m keeping things quite simple on my end, as I’m in my third trimester. Focusing on high quality nutrition and supplementation for myself and baby, staying super hydrated with filtered water, and listening to my body when I need rest (or gentle movement).

No doubt the rest of the year will pick up speed with a new member of the family, so for now it’s all about getting the basics right.

Back to work hairstyles

I personally think winter is a great time to get creative with new hair looks. Most people have a more pared back winter wardrobe filled with dark colours and chunky layers, meaning your hair has a chance to really shine. Here are some of my favourite ideas for 2024:

The sleek low bun —

This is probably the best style for concealing oily hair before hair wash day. Simply scrape your hair back with a bit of mousse or even a hair mask, and set any flyaways firmly in place with a spritz of hairspray. It’s low maintenance and low fuss, so when you’re fiddling with your many layers on and off the Tube, your hair won’t get static-y or messy. To me, this hairstyle means business.

The long braid —

if you’re running from the office to your workout class, why not make things easier for yourself by having your hair perfectly in place? A low-fuss braid will last you through even the most intense pilates class, and as a bonus, you’ll have gorgeous heatless waves when you let your hair down afterwards.

The feminine bow —

If you’re all about oversized blazers and masculine tailoring, why not balance things out with a cute bow in your hair? Whether you’ve got your hair in a messy bun or an elegant half-up half-down look, put a bow on it to finish the look (and turn heads).

The claw clip —

For when you’re rushing out the door or forgot your hairtie, enter the ever-reliable claw clip to scrape everything together in an effortlessly chic way. I love creating more interest and softness in this simple look by pulling out layered tendrils of face-framing hair. You can’t go wrong here!

What do you think of these back-to-work hairstyles? Let me know if you try them!

See you in February!
